I want to move SOUTH!!!!

It is SOOOOOO cold outside today!!!  The sun is bright and shining but it is FREEZING!!!  I want Spring SO bad it isn’t funny!!!!

I am finally feeling better after over a month of fighting… um… whatever it was I’ve had.  At first it was like the flu… then it was like bronchitis… then the pain in my chest, side and shoulder got me the diagnosis of Pleurisy.  I’ve been on 3 antibiotics, the 3rd being a kicker that has really helped!!  (still have a few to take) Aside from not being able to nurse the baby mid-day… things are looking up!  I just nurse him before I take the antibiotic, pump and dump my milk at noon and then nurse him in the evening. Only 3 more days to go and he can "nur" anytime he wants!!

I had spent so much time last month in my room that I had lots of time to think.  Ya I know… that is scary!!  I think too much as it is… give me time to myself and I drive myself nuts!!  (and everyone else around me!!)  I was up there thinking about all the millions of things I wanted to do once I felt better and I spent a lot of time thinking about how much I wish we lived down south!!!!  I honestly get really tired of long winters where you can’t get out and enjoy sun, breathe lots of fresh air, air the house out and hang clothes on the line, etc. etc.  When I was my sickest I just wished I could go out and soak up some healthy sun rays and relax and breathe in the sweet air!!!  But, unless I wanted to put on a snowsuit, hats, and gloves, I’d have to add frostbite to my diagnosis!!!  UGH

I daydream about moving all the time.  I have lived in Maine my whole life… but over the past year or so my heart has turned to the south.  I dream of homesteading and doing what so many people have done…  city folks moving and getting country-fide.  (or like I read in a "No Greater Joy" magazine… moving from the city to "the good life"!!) They say you can’t take the city out of the girl… and that may be so… but you sure can take her OUT of the city!!!  I am a country girl at heart, I guess.

I read on a forum the other day about people just like me.  People who dream about going out to get eggs from their chickens every morning, milking  their cows, weeding in their HUGE gardens, and all that good stuff.  And then I laughed to see that a lot of them were also like me.  OK… so I kill every houseplant I ever own, the only pets I have ever had were cats and taking care of them drove me crazy, and the thought of stepping in cow poop just about makes me wanna hurl!!!  BUT… I still want every last little inch of a farmlife.  I want to MAKE it work!!  I want to get the city out of me as much as possible!!!  I want my children to run through the fields, have a frog pond, ride around on a 4-wheeler, spend hours outside playing and making paths through the woods!  I want my homeschooled children to not have to hibernate for months during our cold season!!!

So… I am rambling.  You can see I am feeling better and am getting Spring fever BAD!!!!

Today has been a good day.  My oldest son has been with his Dad for an extended weekend.  His Dad’s other son goes to a college prep high school (he’s a freshman) so he is off from school for the month.  SO he is also staying an extended visit with their Dad.  My Big Guy "C" is only usually gone every other weekend so this is killing me!!!  I’ve called him almost everday in hopes he’ll say "I think I am going to come home today!!!"  BUT… he says he is going to go day by day and see how it goes.  I’d prefer him home right here with all of us and the other children miss him SO bad… but that’s just one of the awful results of divorce.  But… he will be home in a few days!

My oldest daughter is on a cleaning kick!  She is 6 and is the most helpful kid!!  This all just started out of the blue.  One day she said "Mom… I am going to clean the whole upstairs and I don’t want ANY help!!!"  And she DID!!!   She has been sweeping and washing walls… all on her own!!  Today I had her do dishes and after she was done (and she did AWESOME!!!) I told her she could play!  So here she is playing with soapy water, corks and little toys…hehe.

Oh and I started making another pair of wool longies!  A sweet woman, from the church where we attend Awana, gave me some knitting machine wool she had that she wasn’t using!!!  I figured out that if I used 3 strands together it is like using the regular wool I knit with.  SO… it is a little more work but I am LOVING them!!  It’s a nice wool… one that won’t pill much and I love the color!!  Here are the pants in progress…

I am about halfway done and it doesn’t even look like I’ve used any of the yarn!!!  I will be able to make LOTS of stuff!!  I told my Dh that it’ll be funny… all of us will be wearing brown knit pants, knit shirts, socks, hats, leg warmers…haha.  I could see HIM in a nice brown head band!!  I say that because he is always putting something on his head… whether it IS a head band, a bandana, scarf, the kids pants, underwear, etc.  I love having a fun husband who loves to make the kids laugh!!!  I remember back with our first child he would change their diapers and ALWAYS put their pants on his head while he was changing them.  The kids LOVE it when he wraps a big fat towel around his head like his hair is wet.  What makes it even funnier is that he shaves his head completely bald!!

Ok… how did I get on THAT subject??? haha

I have a couple other pictures to add.  My parents have been SO wonderful through my sickness!!  They were here off and on all month helping with the kids and the house.  When my Dh had to work… they were here.  When he DIDN’T have to work… they still would come over to help out here and there!!  These are 2 cute pix I took of my Mom playing the piano with Baby "E".  She was playing the "Peter Piper Boogie" that I remember her always playing when I was a kid.  The other kids were all dancing around the L.R. but I just thought these pix were so cute:

Awww…I just love pix like that!!

Well… I guess that’s about it for now.  I am going to go and read a few blogs and then finish some housework.

Hope you are all keepin’ warm!  If you are down south… I’m sure you are 😉

Love, B

  1. well, I will now be changing it to Sew Crafty Friday, so that it will reflect sewing and other types of crafts, crocheting, knitting, scrapbooking, etc. What I am doing is every Friday I will post whatever it is I am working on, and a Mr. Linky, so that anyone who wants to share what they are working on, we can come on over and see. I know it inspires me to see what others are working on. Feel free to spread the word. I really want to learn how to knit. I have a lot of yarn, and some needles, but haven't taken the plunge yet. I just learned to crochet about a year ago because one of my dd's want to learn. So this Friday just add your blog to the Mr. Linky so we can all oogle over your knitting skills. lol By they way, I would love to have you and your beautiful family on over for a visit. Come any time. ;0) I know what you mean about wanting to move out the city. We're praying for that as well. But for now, I have to be content where we are. I have to remember that my beloved is a wonderful provider, and make do with where we are, even if it means attempting my first garden in a small area. ;0) I know the Lord will answer our prayers in His time, which is so much better than ours. lol ;0)
Blessings, and thanks for stopping by for a visit. Your daughter is so cute. It's so nice when they help of their own accord.

  3. Bridget,
Thanks for the comment on my blog.
I just picked up my knitting needles again this past weekend. I'm so excited b/c I finally got past casting on and can now knit and purl! I've wanted to learn needle knitting since my teen years but there was no one to guide me. I know only online knitters and there are not any craft/yarn stores near me that offer classes. I picked up the looms last fall, but they just didn't satisfy my knitting needs! LOL Any tips or advice for the newbie knitter are welcomed! I will be adding you to my blogroll as well!
    Blessings,
